If you spend 3 minutes reading this, you will save 3 hours of
stumbling around in frustration. Spend the time to save time.
- Create a REASONABLE character. Type 'score' and look for "tnl:"
on the top right. If you haven't killed anything, that is how much
experience you must earn each level. Between 1000 and 6000 is probably
good for an inexperienced mudder. 6k to 10k should be alright for those
who have mudded before. Above that might get frustrating and you should
consider deleting and trying again. We recommend that new players NOT
CUSTOMIZE their characters. The class defaults should provide all you
will realistically NEED. You won't know enough to customize for a while.
- Go through the Dark Moon Academy and read all of the room descriptions.
There is no filler in there. Everything is important.
- Use "help new area" to find out where to go and how to get there
once you aren't getting much experience from the animals in the Arena.
Killing them for the advice they offer on death might be helpful, even
after they don't give much experience.
- Check for a help file. There is a help file on almost any
subject you will need help understanding. "What's IR mean?" Help IR.
"Where do I train?" Help train. It's all there.
- If you are lost, recall. This puts you one room under the
room you started in...one room south of Kalane the healer. Recall
stops working at level 12. If you get stuck after that and don't
have the spells 'portal' or 'word of recall', ask for a gate or a
summon to town.
- Learn to use the Healer. Kalane is the easiest healer to get
to. He can cure most of your ills. Go to him and type 'heal' to see
how to use a healer. This is where you need to go if/when you die.
- Make friends, meet people, learn how to "group", read help [RP].
- Use the NB channel when you get stuck. Help NB. No one
will laugh at you for asking questions there.
That's it! You're all ready to go. We hope you enjoy playing here.
We built it just for you!
