Etiquette

Here is a list of things that should help you along in your experience here at Dark Risings:

1. When involved in a pkill it is always nice to give benefit of the doubt when someone loses link. This means that the first time, you should stop fighting and let the other person resume his link. However if that person loses link all the time during a fight then it is no breach of etiquette to continue fighting.

2. After you have killed/knocked out a person, its usually standard procedure to loot little and leave them something to have. It shows that you have some honor. However there are times that full looting is called for. You will know those times when they come.

3. Also after getting involved with a pk, you should allow ample time for the victim to recover. If a person was just killed by you or your group what fun is it to kill him again when he is down? As well as it’s an honor point to allow your enemy to recuperate after a defeat.

4. It’s not always good to argue with the immortals of Dark Risings. Usually arguments fall upon deaf ears unless it is presented in an adult manner. If you scream and holler and throw a fit then most likely your arguments will not be taken seriously. See 'Respect' below.

5. Name calling and provoking those who are well above your level will only get you killed. If it doesn’t then most likely you have made some enemies who will bide their time to kill you when you have something more to offer.

6. Learn and use English. This is a text-based English language mud. "u" is not a word. "r" is not a word. These are letters. "r u going gonna help level me or what?" is not a sentence. Because this game revolves entirely around the use of language, many people get annoyed when they see language abused this way.

These are not rules just some simple mud etiquettes that help others determine what kind of player you are.

Respect

These are the guidelines concerning respect towards Immortals, Administrators, and Implementors on Dark Risings. Consider these few lines mere examples. This is not meant to be all-inclusive.

1. At all times while playing here, in character or out, good mood or bad, right or wrong, you WILL treat the staff here with all due respect. If you do not, you will not play here any longer.

2. If you feel that an immortal or administrator is abusing their powers, pushing you around, overstepping their bounds, etc., LOG the incident and post it in a note to IMP. Explain in your note the context of the log and your point of view concerning what it demonstrates. We'll investigate the matter and handle it appropriately. Any snide remarks, insults, sarcasm, etc. toward the staff member will do nothing but weigh heavily AGAINST your point of view.

FAQ:

Q: Why must my character, who hates (insert guild name here), treat (guild) immortals with respect while in character?
A: Because all immortals hold the power to slay you in a single stroke. So, yes, you may be disrespectful in character, and yes they may slay you or turn you into a statue for it...in character.

Q: Why do I have to maintain a respectful demeanor at all times, even if an imm is being (insert mean, unfair, rude, sarcastic, annoying, or any other word) to me?
A: Because the staff here works very long hours, for no money, to try to make this an enjoyable game for you to play. If there is a misunderstanding, their rank and status on this MUD grants them some leeway. Staff who abuse this leeway will be demoted or fired if they keep it up. Your remedy is stated clearly above. Log it. Report it. Let us deal with it.

Q: What do I do if it's an IMP who was (insert mean, unfair, rude, sarcastic, annoying, or any other similar word) to me? Who do I turn to then?
A: www.mudconnector.com Plenty of other muds listed there. We would much rather a MUD with 10 people per night who make playing here fun than 50 people who act like jerks, harass our staff, and make playing here NOT fun.

Q: What do I do if an IMM asks me to do something and I don't want to?
A: Do it. Then appeal to admin or IMP.
